The derivations of "Serangoon Road"

Read the two derivations of the word "Serangoon" below.  By looking at the old map of Singapore, which do you think is an appropriate explanation?

1.      It is interesting to note that perhaps the word "Serangoon" derived from the Malay words "di-serang dengan gong" i.e. to frighten off animals by beating the gongs.
